Star is a Year 1 class following the Early Years philosophy of a cross-curricular learning through play approach.  By promoting a love of learning through fun, practical, everyday activities we aim to increase the children’s independence which boosts their confidence and self-esteem and further their development across all areas of the curriculum.

The children have a range of difficulties comprising speech, language and communication, social, physical and more complex needs including Autism.  We use the TEACCH approach alongside a range of other programs to support individual’s learning and development.  These include daily speech, language, physio and occupational therapy activities which may involve Intensive Interaction, Picture Exchange Communication System (PECs), Communication boards, Augmentative and Alternative Communication Aids (ProxPads), See & Learn Whole Word Reading Scheme alongside strategies to develop gross motor and life skills ranging from getting dressed, brushing teeth to washing up after snack.
