Mercury is a Year 1 / 2 class for children with speech and language needs, as well as social communication and interaction difficulties, including Autistic Spectrum Disorder. By combining a play based approach with the TEACCH methodology, we aim to engage the children in ‘hands on’ learning experiences which are fun and relevant to them, whilst promoting their independence and the development of social skills across all parts of the school day.

By getting to know each child, we are able to offer programs of support which are tailored to their specific needs. These may include speech, language, physio and occupational therapy activities, including Intensive Interaction, Attention Autism sessions, Picture Exchange Communication System (PECs), Communication boards, Augmentative and Alternative Communication Aids (ProxPads), See & Learn Whole Word Reading Scheme alongside strategies to develop gross, fine motor and basic skills for life and learning.
