Welcome to Chiltern Gate School

Chiltern Gate School is a special school with boarding facilities for primary-aged pupils with communication and interaction difficulties, including those who have speech, language and communication needs, autism and moderate learning difficulties. We are located in the southern area of High Wycombe, on Verney Avenue. As a school we aim to provide a safe, stimulating environment that focuses on the individual needs of the pupils and develops carefully targeted plans to help our pupils prepare for their secondary school and ultimately the outside world. We are developing a curriculum that provides exciting opportunities for pupils to engage in meaningful activities that are relevant and beneficial to their long term success. We aim to work closely alongside parents and carers in this process.

Our school is going through a period of change. Our ten classes are currently spread across 3 buildings – Forest, Woodlands and Orchard, while we undergo some extensive building work in order to update our classrooms. The work currently underway focuses on Forest building, and is all due to be completed by the end of the half term holiday in the Summer Term 2013. The school will be able to fully make use of the renovated buildings for the new academic year.

Our school underwent an OFSTED inspection in December 2012, which placed the school in special measures. Since then many changes have taken place, including my appointment as headteacher, and we are moving the school forward in every department. HMI visit us on a termly basis, and all staff, governors and the wider community is dedicated to ensuring our young people achieve their potential. Most recently, a PTA organisation has been formed – The Friends of Chiltern Gate School. We welcome new additions to this group who will be pivotal in developing parental involvement. Please contact the school office if you would like to join.

Chiltern Gate School is moving towards a Bright Future. We welcome all those who wish to join us for the journey.
